The locals of the state are called Uttarakhandi, or more explicitly either Garhwali or Kumaoni by their region or origin. 86% of the total area is covered by mountainous region. The official language of uttarakhand is hindi ,which is spoken by almost 43% of the population and the other major regional languages of uttarakhand are Garhwali which is spoken in western part of the state by 23% population and kumaoni is spoken in eastern part of the state by 20% natives.
